This Sunday is the Twenty-first after Pentecost, and the Gospel, to which the Sunday canticle antiphons refer, is St Matthew 18: 23-35 (the Parable of the Wicked Servant).
For those saying Matins, the Third Nocturn commentary on the Gospel is St Jerome's commentary on St Matthew.
The First Nocturn readings at Matins (referred to by the I Vespers Magnificat antiphon) are for the Second Sunday of October, 1 Maccabees 4:36-51. The Second Nocturn readings are from St Augustine's City of God (Book 18, ch 45).
