Kate, thank you so much for sharing this wealth of information with everyone, it is so helpful and much appreciated. I have only just taken delivery of my copy of the MD from Farnborough, so still finding my way around. I am from an evangelical background, but started to explore the catholic tradition about 6 years ago. I'm using the word catholic in its broad sense, hence the lower case 'c'. In 2015 I was confirmed in the Anglican Communion, and attend a Parish church that is very much in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. I am also a novice oblate of a Benedictine community here in the UK. I started out using the Church of England Common Worship for Morning and Evening Prayer, but found myself more drawn to the LOTH, which I have been using for the past two years. I had no idea the MD was still in print until this past weekend, when I stumbled upon it at the Farnborough Abbey website. So I ordered a copy and am looking forward to being able to follow the Benedictine pattern of prayer.

I wonder if you could help me with a specific question (I suspect I may have many more in the coming days!)? I notice in the MD that Prime on Monday (Psalter pg 7) ends with a Chapter, Collect, Our Father, etc., but Prime on the other days of the week does not have this. Today I used Ant 1 from Lauds from the Common, but wasn't sure how to conclude the Office. Other hours seem to have a rubric that instructs you to use the concluding parts from another page, but Prime doesn't. Do you always use the concluding section from Monday, or is there a Chapter for each day that I have not found? Would you use the Collect from Monday, or the Collect from the previous Sunday? Any help you can give would be really appreciated.

Grace and Peace,

Kevin

Welcome to the Benedictine Office Kevin!

Happy to answer questions, so just keep them coming. That said, you will probably find a look at my Learn the Office page useful:

http://saintsshallarise.blogspot.com.au/p/the-notes-linked-to-below-are-around.html

There are some notes on the opeing and concluding pages here:http://saintsshallarise.blogspot.com.au/2009/04/learning-breviary-conclusion-of-office.html

And on Prime in particular here:
http://saintsshallarise.blogspot.com.au/2009/04/learning-office-part-vii-prime.html

The short answer to your question though is is that for Prime the opening and concluding prayers are the same every day, so just use the texts for Monday!

Thanks Kate. I'll take a read of those pages over the weekend.

A quick question,

Does Epiphanytide last only until the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord? Or, does it continue on until the beginning of Lent?

I'm not sure if I should still be saying the readings from Epiphanytide or just what should be said throughout the year.

Thank you!
