Not being bound to the office, I'm content to be devotional rather than strictly liturgical. Have to decide whether the advantages of moving to the monastic office from what I pray now (the 1910 via divinumofficium.com) are sufficient to warrant the move. Am looking forward to reading your comparisons posts.Marc in Eugenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04331547981498637474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16185910560920602.post-72629018293502418632015-12-16T08:47:46.283+11:002015-12-16T08:47:46.283+11:00Thanks Marc. I have indeed done some comparisons of Offices, you can find the start of the series here:http://psallamdomino.blogspot.com.au/2011/08/ordering-of-psalms1.html

Personally I think the ancient Benedictine psalm schema is far superior than any of the revisions of the Roman over the last couple of centuries (Pope Pius X was just as dreadful a liturgical wreckovator as some of the more recent efforts in my view!). There is a little technical issue though, in that it is technically authorised for Benedictines (ie monks, nuns, sisters, oblates and I guess oblate-novices). Just as a secular priest has no right to say the Dominican Rite mass, there isn't a general right to adopt the Benedictine rite in the Office.

How important you consider that depends on whether you want to say it liturgically or merely devotionally I guess (of course easy enough to find a Benedictine Monastery, and associate yourself with them!).Kate Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01000040465724868745noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16185910560920602.post-89450015567998768222015-12-16T05:45:10.071+11:002015-12-16T05:45:10.071+11:00I got here following your comment at Fr Hunwicke&#...I got here following your comment at Fr Hunwicke's 'Nostra aetate (6)'-- this is such an excellent presentation of your insights into the Benedictine office! thank you!

Am contemplating moving from the Roman to the monastic office, perhaps as Septuagesima occurs: I must look about on your sites since I suspect you've addressed somewhere or in many places why one might want to use the one office rather than the other.Marc in Eugenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04331547981498637474noreply@blogger.com
