Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost/Fourth Sunday of October

This Sunday is the Twenty-Second after Pentecost and the fourth of October.

The readings at Matins

The first Nocturn readings at Matins this Sunday are from 2 Maccabees 1:1-6, 18-22.  The second Nocturn readings are from St John Chrysostom's commentary on Psalm 43 (which relate to the Maccabees reading).  The third Nocturn reading, which refers to Sunday's Gospel St Matthew 22:15-21, is from a sermon of St Hilary on Mt 23:1-2.

Bible Reading Plan

For those following the Bible in a Year Reading Plan, this week sees us completing 2 Maccabees, and starting on Ezekiel.  For the Gospel, I propose to look at John 7-8, and will continue to provide brief lectio notes to aid you on this.  Please do let me know if you have any suggestions on how these might be made more useful to you.

The Benedictine Office this week in summary

It is worth noting that in the Extraordinary Form, and many calendars of individual monasteries, this Thursday is the feast of St Raphael the Archangel.
