Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost

This Sunday is the 'twenty-fourth after Pentecost'.  Note though that in fact the Gospels, collects and canticle antiphons for the Sundays over the next few weeks are for the Sundays leftover from after Epiphany, today the fourth Sunday.

It is also the first Sunday of November, and with November, the Benedictine Office goes to 'winter' mode.  At Lauds the hymn changes to Aeterne Rerum; at Matins there are three readings each day in the ferial Office; and for those who sing the Office, the hymn tones at Lauds and Vespers change.

Matins readings for Sunday

Nocturn I: Ezekiel 1:1-12
Nocturn II: Exposition of St Gregory the Great on Ezekiel, Bk I, Homily 2
Nocturn III: Sermon of St Jerome on Mt 8
Gospel: Matthew 8:23-27

Matins readings during the week

This week, the readings are from the prophet Ezekiel:

Tuesday: Ez 3:1-13
Wednesday: Ez 7:113a

Friday: Ez 15:1-8; 16:1-5
