Traditional Benedictine Office - Ordo for twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost (Nov 12 - 18)

The notes below are designed to assist those wishing to say the Benedictine Office according to the officially approved 1962 books (noting that older books can readily be adapted to this end).

They provides notes on the variable parts of the Office only, so should be read in conjunction with the Learn to Say the  Benedictine Office notes provided elsewhere on the blog.

Third Sunday of November

This Sunday is the Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost.  The Magnificat antiphon used in the commemoration of the Sunday at Saturday Vespers on November 11 is for the Third (note that the second Sunday is always omitted) of November, as are the Matins Readings.  The responsories are those of November.

All Saints and All Souls of the Benedictine Order

On Monday we celebrate All Saints of the Benedictine Order. The readings (or links to them) and responsories for the feast will, as usual, be found on the Lectio Divina Notes and Benedictine Responsory Blogs.

Tuesday's Office, for All Souls of the Benbedictine Order, is said as for All Soul's Day apart from the collects and martyrology.

Weekday Matins readings

This week the three readings each day (feasts aside) are from the book of Daniel.  Listings of the ferial readings and responsories will be found on the Lectio Divina Notes Blog.

Feast of St Gertrude

The feast of St Gertrude is second class if the monastery to which you are attached is of women; third class otherwise.  The (Patristic) readings and the responsories for the Class II version of the feast (it was elevated in the twentieth century) are not available online as far as I can ascertain.

Key to the abbreviations:

MD= Monastic Diurnal (MD, 2004 onwards editions)
AM =Antiphonale Monasticum 1934 (1995 edition).
LR=Liber Responsorialis (downloadable from CC Watershed) and the Nocturnale Romanum.
LH=Liber Hymnarius, 1983
