Ordo for the twenty-first week after Pentecost, including feast of Christ the King (Oct 29- Nov

The Ordo notes for the traditional Benedictine Office according to the 1962 rubrics and calendar this week are set out below.

Be aware that the Ordo provides page numbers for the variable texts of the Office only, and assumes you are familiar with the structure of the hours.  If  you are new to the Office, or need to brush up on the basics, start here instead.

Feast of Christ the King

This Sunday is the feast of Christ the King in the Extraordinary Form and Benedictine 1962 calendar.

The chants for the day hours can be found in the Le Barroux reprint of the Antiphonale Monasticum; sources for the Matins chants can be found on the Benedictine Responsory Blog.

Translations of the readings and responsories will, as usual, appear on the Lectio Divina Notes Blog.

All Saints and All Souls

November 1 is of course the great feast of All Saints, and readings and responsories for it can be found on the Lectio Divina Notes Blog.  For those saying Matins, an integrated version of the texts and chants for the Office can be found on the Gregofacsimil Website.  Note however that the verses provided for responsories 3, 4 and 10 are incorrect (they are from the medieval Hartker MSS rather than reflecting the verses used in the post-Tridentine breviaries); sources for the correct texts can be found in their Benedictine Responsory Blog listing.

On the feast of All Souls, in the 1962 Office, Matins, Lauds and Vespers are essentially (aside from the readings at Matins and collect).as for the Office of the Dead, which is said instead of the Office of the day, not as well as it.

At Prime to None and Compline, the opening prayers, hymn and antiphon are omitted.   At the end of each psalm, instead of the Gloria Patri the verses 'Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine. E lux perpetua luceat eis' are said.  At Compline the Nunc Dimittis is also said on this day.
